Justin Lee Collins and Shayne Ward talk about Rock of Ages

Justin Lee Collins and Shayne Ward have been talking about making their debut in Rock of Ages soon.

The musical arrives at the Shaftesbury Theatre on August 31st 2011 and the two performers told Digital Spy they are both loving the 1980s power ballads they have to sing.

Lee Collins revealed he has a soft spot for I Can’t Fight This Feeling, while Ward had particular praise for Here I Go Again.

Ward also said he is thrilled to be playing the same character as Tom Cruise, who will star in the forthcoming movie version.

Meanwhile, Lee Collins joked that he is getting phone calls from Alec Baldwin, who is portraying his character in the film, to discuss how he is going to make particular scenes work.

The two performers added that it will be worth watching Rock of Ages for the hair alone, as they both have bouffant curls.

Earlier this month, Ward told the Daily Mail he was in tears when he was told he was being dropped from Simon Cowell’s record label back in April.

Big Brother embraces Wizard of Oz theme for latest tasks

Celebrity Big Brother looked towards The Wizard of Oz for inspiration this week as it came up with some devious tasks for the housemates to complete.

The contestants had to nominate each other to play the various characters from the musical, based on their personalities within the house.

Consequently, paparazzo Darryn Lyons had to be the Tin Man – because the others suspected he didn’t have a heart – and Amy Childs was required to dress up as the Scarecrow in order to prove she had a brain.

Lyons was given choices of accepting three rewards for himself or three for his fellow housemates and went for the selfless option each time, although he looked upset about not being able to speak to his parrot.

Meanwhile, Childs just managed to pass her own test, which involved answering general knowledge questions about birds.

If the housemates want to find out more about the reasoning behind their tasks once they are released, they could go and watch The Wizard of Oz, which is showing at the London Palladium well into next year.

Demand for London theatre tickets leads to Ghost decision

The high demand for London theatre tickets among those looking to see Ghost – The Musical has resulted in the show securing a place on Broadway.

Such has been the success of the smash hit musical, producers have confirmed it will open at the Nederlander Theatre in New York next spring.

Starring the likes of ex-Coronation Street actor Richard Fleeshman, the production based on the iconic early-1990s movie has wowed audiences at the Piccadilly Theatre in the West End since it debuted last month.

Producers have confirmed previews of the show will start from March and theatregoers in the States will be able to hear renditions of Unchained Melody when the musical starts officially in April.

“It’s such a joy to see this timeless story as a musical that deeply affects both those who cherish it and those who are seeing it for the first time,” commented producer Colin Ingram.

Ghost – which featured Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg – was the highest grossing film in the UK in 1990.

Samantha Womack proves the show must go on in South Pacific

Samantha Womack has been demonstrating the importance of the old adage ‘the show must go on’ after badly hurting her toe before the opening night of South Pacific.

According to the Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye, the actress suffered an injury while she sang Wash That Man Outta My Hair in previews on Monday (August 22nd 2011) night, but managed to grin through the pain and finish the musical.

After seeking doctors’ advice afterwards, Womack was told she had possibly broken one of her toes and must stop performing.

“They said she couldn’t possibly go on. But she was determined and so were we to have her perform at the opening night,” explained director Bartlett Sher.

A medic was eventually persuaded to strap the actress’s foot up and give her painkiller to allow her to go on stage. However, more tests will be carried out this week to see if it is necessary for her understudy to step in.

This comes after Mr Bamigboye said Womack is “a triumph” in South Pacific and urged everyone to go and see it.

Not long left to get London theatre tickets for Love Never Dies

Anyone intending to get London theatre tickets for Love Never Dies had better get their skates on, as the musical closes next week.

As announced in June, the show will lower its curtains for the final time at the Adelphi Theatre on August 27th 2011.

The production is the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera and is set ten years after the events of the first instalment took place.

It sees Christine travel to New York’s Coney Island to sing for a mysterious client, taking her son and husband with her.

However, when she gets there, her booker is none other than the phantom.

Andrew Lloyd Webber had hoped that Love Never Dies would become as successful as its predecessor, but this was sadly not the case.

He recently told the London Evening Standard that he wishes he had temporarily closed it when he was diagnosed with cancer so he could make the necessary changes when he recovered.

Only one more week to see Chicago razzle dazzle in London

People intending to see Chicago in London now have only one more week left to buy tickets and head to the Cambridge Theatre.

The final performance of the musical will be on August 27th 2011, in order to make way for a new production of Matilda at the same venue.

It had been hoped that producers would be able to find an alternative home for long-runner Chicago, but this seems not to have been possible, although it may open in the West End again at a later date.

Those hoping to treat themselves could get hold of a VIP ticket package, which includes top seats, a glass of champagne and a souvenir programme.

Christie Brinkley is currently appearing as Roxie Hart after wowing casting officials on Broadway.

Chicago tells the story of Roxie, who wants to be a famous singer but is conned by her lover. In a fury, she shoots him dead and ends up in jail alongside Velma Kelly – can she use her feminie wiles to get out of there and achieve her dream?

Angelina Jolie takes children to see Shrek the Musical

Angelina Jolie was spotted yesterday (August 14th 2011) taking some of her six children to watch an afternoon performance of Shrek the Musical at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane.

The A-lister took Maddox, Pax, Zahara and Shiloh to watch the show about the big green ogre.

However, Knox and Vivienne were absent, as was Brad Pitt, who is currently shooting his new movie World War Z in this country.

Jolie was dressed smartly in an all-black outfit, but did not pose or smile for the waiting crowd of photographers.

Little Shiloh even stuck her tongue out at the intrusion as they left the theatre venue.

Last week, Jolie and Pitt took all of their children to watch the West End’s Wicked, again opting for a Sunday matinee performance so the youngsters did not have to stay up late.

They have been spotted on family outings a number of times during their visit to Britain, even surprising customers at a London branch of Halfords when they popped in to browse during a shopping trip.
